- Blind carbon copies or other implicit destinations are not allowed.
Reason: This means that the address for the list was not found in the To: or CC: headers.
Solution: To enable BCC addressing , go to "Privacy Options"–>"Recipient filters" –> "Must posts have list named in destination (to, cc) field (or be among the acceptable alias names, specified below)?" . This filed need to be "No".
- Too many recipients to the message.
Reason: This happens when number of recipients are larger than its threshold (10 by default). It is a safeguard against malicious mails.
Solution: To increase the range of default 10; go to "Privacy Options" –> "Recipient filters" and Change the "Ceiling on acceptable number of recipients for a posting"; then Submit Your Changes.
- Message body is too big.
Reason: message is bigger that specified by the moderator or default.
Solution:To change the limit go to "General Options" and change "Maximum length in Kb of a message body. Use 0 for no limit."
- Discard unattended old moderated messages after 15 days.
Reason: message is bigger that specified by the moderator or default.
Solution:To change the limit go to "General Options" and change "Discard held messages older than this number of days. Use 0 for no automatic discarding.

- Post by non-member to a members-only list.
Reason: When a non member sends email to a moderated list, and requires moderators approval.
Solution: To accept such emails, go to Privacy Options –> [Sender filters]–> "Non-member filters"; then "Action to take for postings from non-members for which no explicit action is defined." to "Accept". Caution: enable this feature only when very essential or consult Computer Centre to understand it better.
- Message has implicit destination.
Reason: This means that mail which is bcc'ed to the list (or is sent to another list which has your list as a member)
Solution: To turn these off Privacy Options –> "Recipient filters". Change the setting for "Must posts have list named in destination (to, cc) field to "No" and "Ceiling on acceptable number of recipients for a posting" to 0.
- Post to moderated list.
Reason: This means that moderator has enabled moderation by default.
Solution: To change this go to Privacy Options –> [Sender filters]–> "Member filters" –> "By default, should new list member postings be moderated?" –> NO.
- Can not see list prefix for an email.
Reason: Mailman is careful not to add a prefix when the header already has one, as is the case in replies.
Solution: Check for mails which with prefix at beginning.
- When recipient in CC and is also a list member, the email is delivered only once.
Reason: Check "Membership Management" page for "nodupes" option to supress duplicate mails for email ID.
Solution: Disable "nodupes" option for that member in the membership management page.
